Parents & Toddlers
Every Thursday morning from 9.30-11 a small and friendly group of mums, dads, grandparents and childminders bring their under-3s along for a time of play and creating in the large space that is the main hall. There’s a great range of toys, things to draw and make, and some singing and the all-important snack around the table (with tea/coffee and biscuits for the grown-ups). Come along for a chat, or just to play with some different things! Just turn up, £1.50 per family on the door. An extra group now runs along very similar lines, same time, same place, on Wednesdays.
Over 50s’ Club
We are a warm and friendly group, always happy to welcome new members. Our aim is to enable anyone over 50 and any age upwards, to meet together, make friends and generally have a good time. We are part of St Giles outreach into the local community and we are a good mix of churchgoers and members of the wider community. We welcome people from all around our local area, not just from Exhall.
We started in May 2010 with about 20 members and we have now grown to 70 members. We’re not just a group for women, we have plenty of men too!Our meetings are held in St Giles Main Hall at the junction of Vicarage Lane and St Giles Road. We meet every Tuesday except over Christmas, except when we are on a day trip; so ring Marion on 024 7673 8883 just to check!
Our meetings consist of a regular quiz, talks, musical activities and singsongs, table games, larger games and discussions with refreshments of sandwiches, cakes and unlimited tea and coffee. Volunteers among our members provide the sandwiches and cakes. On the first Tuesday of the month we have a buffet, which varies from sausage and onion batches to cottage pies and curries.
Our outings are a very important part of our activities. Once a month we have a lunch out together. This is usually a pub, locally or further afield. Transport is always available to those who need it.
We pay £12 annual membership and £2 per meeting. We also bring a small raffle prize and buy 5 raffle tickets for £1. This income has enabled us to subsidise our coach trips and pay for our monthly buffet.
So, if you’re 50 or over and you’re looking for something different to do, come and give the Exhall Over 50s a try!
St Giles Drama Club was officially formed in 1989 and has performed an annual pantomime every year since then.
Membership of the group varies from year to year, but the average pantomime cast is around 30. Children are welcome to join from the age of 8 years and there is no upper age limit! Panto rehearsals start in September each year and the show is staged during February half-term week.
The Drama Club is also keen to enhance the worship of the church through drama and has contributed to services in many ways over the years. During 2011 the Good Friday morning service included a thought-provoking presentation which involved around 15 people of all ages. In the summer a smaller group performed a sketch at both the 9.30 and 11.15 a.m. services. This told the story of the parable of the wise and foolish builders and was very well received.
